What is a Graphic design?

What is graphic design is, skills to be a graphic designer, design theory, the education you'd like, the equipment you'd like, to the graphic design portfolio and interview advice, this series for anyone and any level.

So you're interested in graphic design, perhaps considering becoming a graphic designer and searching to seek out out more during this post I'm going to discuss what graphic design is.

Now I even have often found this a really hard question, because it doesn't really have a simple answer without some extent of explanation. Now if you google this it'll tell you that:

'Graphic design is that the art or skill of blending text and pictures in advertisements, magazines or books So quite simple and accurate explanation there, though I happen to think there's more thereto than that.

So what's graphic design?

Well, let's start simple. So with the graphic design, we've two things:

We have graphics and elegance. The graphic is visual, which is said to art, imagination, and expression, involving many mediums like drawing painting engraving, or lettering has given clear and explicit detail.

So the graphic neighborhood of graphic designing is made from visual elements, the building blocks of styles.

The basic visual elements the combine to form agraphic design include the following: Line, Colour, Shape, Texture, Space, Form, and Typography Through the harness of our artistic expression we elect these visual elements and arrange them on a surface during a layout to convey an idea.

Now the second part is designed, which is to form a choice upon the planning and performance of something before it's made. So graphic design is thinking, problem-solving and practicality.... theory. In graphic design, there are rules which can be considered.

These rules are called 'The principles of design'. These principles all have a relationship with each other and appear in every neat piece of labor you see. therefore the design principles make the planning in 'graphic design'. an honest grasp of design theory will mean there's always substance behind your work.

The key principles of graphic design are Contrast, Hierarchy, Alignment, Balance, Proximity, Repetition, Simplicity, and performance.

once we bring both the visual elements and thus the planning principles together we've graphic design. Graphic design isn't drawing, graphic design isn't painting, graphic design isn't creating an ad or a quick logo on your computer, these things are the means to the end and are skills in their title.

Graphic design isn't about making things look pretty, graphic design is that the organization and presentation of knowledge, developed through a clever process for a selected function. In graphic design we must first understand information, a message or a fast then research, think, imagine and develop and make a solution, a thought so on speaks that information, tell a story, a message, or idea in a visible way.

It's only one occasion we've got a solid idea developed through the design process we'll use our skills with layout, color, typography, and artistic tools to bring that idea to life Once upon a time which may are with just the assistance of a pencil or a paint coat paper.

Today it's all those things and more.

Today we even have cameras, computers, and printers, since the invention of the print press which enabled reproduction on a mass scale graphic design has been used to communicate and spread messages worldwide.

Through the evolution of technology, today we are surrounded by an abundance of communication.

Today graphic design is implemented across a broad spectrum of media both print and digital such as Advertising, Branding, Web design, Interface design, Magazine layout, Paper engineering and packaging, TV, Motion Graphics, Infographics, Signage, Art, and installations, and Digital art.

If you are looking to pursue a career in graphic design you'll inevitably end up creating work across one of those sectors. Over many decades within the past graphic design has shaped culture through Pop Art, political art, and art. Today graphic design features an enormous commercial side, it's associated heavily with commerce and used to sell and advertise things, but that's not all it's to be.

The power of graphic design to inform, influence, and instruct on an ad level can also be used to educate and encourage a generation I feel the graphic design is that the unity of two opposing forces, artistic expression, and application, design theory.

As a graphic designer, these two forces will always be at odds with each other in your mind. once you'll harness these two forces together consonantly, then you'll create great visual communication. So that's an introduction to what is a graphic design is. For any of you that were unsure of what is graphic design is.

I hope that has helped to elucidate.
